BSc Optometry

The 3-year course provides the aspirants with theoretical as well as practical knowledge and skills to become a professional optometrist. Industry estimates in India predict a requirement of over two lakh institutionally-qualified optometrists as opposed to the current availability of a meagre 5,000. The profession involves much more than prescribing spectacles or contact lenses. This programme is meant for students who are keen to discover the latest modern imaging techniques and demonstrate an interest in scientific principles. The students are trained to identify the defect in the eye and propose the rectification methods.

The program also enables the students to set up a start-up eye Care Company by enhancing their professional skills. The candidates can work under the supervision of the eye doctors or enter into the ophthalmic solution companies. The programme is for students who have a strong fondness to learn through practical education and have the vision to explore new possibilities in this field. An optometrist is a health care provider and a medical professional who provides regular vision care besides eyeglasses and contacts. The internal and external structure of the eye is also examined by him.

DURATION 4 Years

ELIGIBILITY

Sr. Secondary (10+2) with Biology or Life Sciences as one of the subjects 
with minimum 50% marks.
An entrance exam followed by personal interview with ICRI.

The initial salary for a fresher in optometry ranges from INR 2 lacs to 5 lacs per annum while an ophthalmologist salary depending on his place of employment and skills is about INR 9 lacs to 10 lacs per annum depending upon the candidature.

WHAT WILL YOU STUDY

The program is envisaged to develop a multipurpose ophthalmic manpower at paramedical level. The program will enable a student to become a competent person in providing service as an Optician, Optometrist, Refraction Specialist and Ophthalmic Assistant to the community. Our training methodology will provide students with integrated inputs that will help develop their conceptual & analytical skills, and a strong technical knowledge base, in order to prepare them for a bright future in the eye care sector of the Healthcare Industry.
